STORM’S OVER. TIME TO MOVE.
KING TIDE SHORE SUPPORT
Wild weather, El Niño, Higher Tides, Bomb Cyclones, Kelvin Waves. We can't plan the when, but we do know how these conditions affects our shores. Let's protect nature together.

Want to help clean up the Oakland Estuary after a storm, before those ever higher King Tides? We go out to the NOAA Marine Debris Hotspots and clear storm debris before it gets pulled out to the bay.

Looking for adventure and fun while making a difference? Yes!

Storm Signal FAQ

Do I need to have a certain level of proficiency to join/respond to the storm signals?
  • We welcome paddlers who are comfortable paddling up to 3 miles in winds of up to 12 knots and can independently get in and out of their boats.
  • Storm Signal paddles are community outings rather than guided instruction sessions. Participants should be confident navigating themselves and their boats along the shoreline and prepared to manage their own safety on the water.
  • Come prepared, paddle within your abilities, and look out for one another. Each paddler is responsible for assessing their own readiness and comfort with the conditions.
What's the difference between a storm signal and other IHOAE clean up?
  • IHOAE will mobilize paddlers quickly to reach cleanup sites after a major storm system moves through the Bay. This allows us to remove debris washed onto shorelines and out of storm drains during storm events before it gets swept into the Bay by the large high winter tides.
How will I get the storm signal?
  • We will be sending SMS and emailing the list of people who sign up (sign up here), as well as posting to our instagram a day before we head out. Email and SMS is the best way to alert you.
Do I need to respond to the storm signal?
  • If you can make it, please RSVP via text or email when you get the signal. We would like to know how many people to expect, so if you would like to invite a friend, make sure you RSVP for them or have them RSVP (here). We’ll send out a Storm Signal after each significant storm or weather event. If you’re unable to join a cleanup, no worries—there’s no need to respond. We’ll catch you on the next one!
I have another question about the storm signal - who can I talk to?
